Alice Marie (Klima) Stehlik passed away on March 19, 2022. She was 102 years old. She was born on a farm southwest of Crete on January 8, 1920, to Steve and Mary Klima. She later moved with her family to a farm in Seward County and attended country school District 18 and later attended Crete High School. She worked as a cook and housekeeper for a professor at Doane College. She later worked as a Packer at Crete Mills during World War II. In 1945 she married her longtime friend Emil Stehlik and moved to Iowa where Emil was a guard at a prisoner of war camp. Later in 1945 they moved to the farm in Saline County. They lived there until 1989 and then retired to a home in Crete. Alice moved to Garden Square in October of 2017. They had 2 children a son Roger and daughter Carol. Alice loved the farm and always had a big garden, chickens and ducks. She loved to bake and cook for her family and also liked to sew and do crafts. She was a long time member of the Valley View Extension Club and loved her friends in the club. She was an active member of the VFW Auxiliary and American Legion Auxiliary. She always baked kolaches for the VFW Bingo. Alice loved her church and was a member of the Altar Society and helped with funeral dinners and she always cheerfully volunteered when she was asked. Emil and Alice loved to go on bus trips to Nashville, Branson and many more places. They also traveled with friends to many attractions and enjoyed spending time with family and friends. Alice was a loving mother, grandmother, neighbor and friend and will be greatly missed. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers, Ermine and Leonard, brothers-in-law, and sisters-in-law. She is survived by her son Roger (Jo) Stehlik of Crete and daughter Carol (Tom) Smith of St. Edward, her grandchildren: Lori Stehlik of Crete, Jessica (Roger) Vocasek of Crete, Bryan (Cindy) Smith of Minden, Jennifer (Taylor) Liess of McCook, great grandchildren: Danielle (Ryan) Lawrence of Lincoln, and Aiden, Evan, Brynn, and Cael of Minden; Weston and Jaylea Walgren of McCook and Kellen and Kohen Liess of McCook, great great grandchildren: Rogan, Lochlan and Cora Lawrence of Lincoln. Funeral Mass: Wednesday, 10:30 A.M., Sacred Heart Church, Crete. Rosary: Tuesday, 7:00 P.M., Kuncl Funeral Home, Crete. Visitation: 5 – 7 P.M., Kuncl Funeral Home. Arrangements entrusted to Kuncl Funeral Home in Crete. Memorials are suggested to the Sacred Heart Church new building fund.
