Allen H. Ebbers, of Lapeer, MI, passed away on January 26, 2018. He was born on August 18, 1946, in Beatrice, NE, to Harvey and Edna (Franzen) Ebbers. He married Phyllis Swedlund on August 2, 1969; they divorced in 1980. They had two daughters: Mindy (Rik) Schwab, and Rebecca (Neal) Neathery. He was the proud grandpa of nine grandchildren: Beth Schwab, Catherine (Matthew) Noey, Becca Schwab, Abby Schwab, Molly Schwab, Josie Schwab, Parker Neathery, Michael Neathery, and Hannah Neathery.
Allen was a member of FFA at Wilber High School, and then went on to be a farmer after graduating in 1964. He then worked in construction for a time, followed by working at Store Kraft in Beatrice. He enjoyed Nebraska football, animals, and working with his hands. He was good at drawing and painting, building and restoring, gardening, and especially cooking. If you knew Allen, also known as Big Al or Big A, you know that he loved cooking for others. Food was his love language, and his daughters and grandkids loved his homemade pizza, among many other dishes.
Allen also loved people, and had a witty sense of humor and a generous and gentle soul. He will be greatly missed by family and friends. He is preceded in death by his mother and father, his sister, Marilyn Broz and her husband, Bernard Broz. He is survived by his children, grandchildren, his siblings, Doris (Emil) Odvody, Dale (Linda) Ebbers, Dean (Judy) Ebbers, and Linda (Buz) Novak, and many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.
Visitation will be held at Kuncl Funeral Home in Wilber, Nebraska, on Friday, February 2, 2018, from 5-8 pm. A celebration of his life will be held at the Swanton Auditorium on Saturday, February 3, 2018, at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the family for future designation.
