Obituary

Alonzo Y. Elliott, of rural DeWitt, died on February 20, 2023. He was born on January 20, 1948, in Abington, Pennsylvania. Al moved several times throughout his early years. He moved to a rural area of Pennsylvania in the fourth grade and fell in love with the country life and enjoyed everything associated with small town living. Mail was delivered to his house, but if it was needed sooner, he and his brother rode their bikes a little over a mile to the general store to retrieve it. It was a long uphill ride getting there, but a great downhill ride coming home! Even at ten years old he knew he wanted to own his own farm to live on, thanks to summer visits to his aunt and uncle's farm in Butler, PA.

He eventually attended Doane College and graduated with a degree in Elementary Education in 1969 and a Master's Degree in 1975.

After graduation, Al accepted a teaching position in Geneva, NE for a couple years but soon left to teach at Tri County in DeWitt, where he finished his career in education. He had wonderful classes that he truly enjoyed working with, even if he did have a hard time remembering which students were in what class. The students were all enthusiastic, intelligent, and appreciative of his efforts. They made his work fun and easy. He especially enjoyed running into both current and former students out in the community. After 42 years serving his community as an educator, he was able to retire in 2011 to pursue his lifelong dream of running a tree farm.

Shortly before graduating from Doane College, Al met his wife and lifelong best friend Connie. He is survived by his wife and two sons: Andrew (wife Danielle and grandson Henry, and granddaughter Amelia of Shawnee, KS) and Brian of Lincoln, NE. He was preceded in death by his parents Alonzo and Helen Elliott, a brother, Harrison, and a sister, Sandra.

Al always enjoyed being outside, wood working, traveling, and collecting all types of things. He is loved immeasurably and will be missed always.

Private services will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Clatonia and DeWitt Fire Departments and the Clatonia Community Center.  Arrangements entrusted to Kuncl Funeral Home.
