Alvin E. Aksamit age 80 of Wilber, Nebraska, passed away at his home on May 26, 2024. Alvin was born February 18, 1944, in Lincoln, Nebraska; the only child of Edward E. and Gertrude R. (Freeouf) Aksamit. He grew up on a farm near Hallam, Nebraska and attended District 158 country school through the eighth grade and graduated from Crete High School with the class of 1962. Then went on and graduated from Milford Trade School with a degree in Welding and Metallurgy in 1964. After graduating from Milford, he purchased Al's Welding Shop in Edgar, Nebraska.

Alvin and Shirley were happily married for 59 years. They made their home in Edgar until 1975, at which time they purchased a farm near Hallam, Nebraska.

Alvin raised hogs and did custom welding. He also worked at Tyser Repair in Dorchester, Schuerman Welding in Clatonia, NAPA Auto Parts in Crete, and Crete Public Schools. Alvin was an EMT and a volunteer fireman in Edgar. He also served on the rural fire board for the Hallam Fire Department. He was also on the school board for District 158. Alvin and Shirley were blessed with three children, Duane (Dewey), Danny, and Carmen. Alvin loved his family, loved to fish, and loved playing cards. Alvin belonged to several card-playing groups including a Darta, Hallam Nickel Poker Group, Kuncl Card Club, and a Pinochle Group.  But most of all Al loved to have fun and make people smile.

Alvin is survived by his wife Shirley, son Duane (Mary), daughter Carmen (Ted) Schreiter, and daughter-in-law Tammy. Grandchildren Dillon (Kaylee), Austin (Kellie), Dalton (Ella), Aksamit, Amanda (Damir) Begic, Joe and Katie Schreiter, Jeremy (Lizzy), Chris (Sally), Paul (Jill), Matt (Mindy), Michael (Lisa), Kenny (Shawna) Heusinkvelt, Lisa (Josh) Fortin, Laura (Josh) Strele. Great Grandchildren: Dawson, Lane, Blair, Charlotte, Walker, Cash, Juliette, Lucas, Jacob (Tori), Cyanne (Tristan), Haley (Toni), Tommy (Haley) Elijah, Grace, Madison, Arianna, Faith, Kinsley, Sylvia, Joel, Sammie, Brody, Genevieve, Riley, Alexandria, Isabel, Lexie, Aubree, Alyvia, Aaron, Ivan, Scarlett, Axel, Thea, and Lane. Great- Great Grandchildren Bentley, Halsey, Myella.

Alvin was preceded in death by his parents, son Danny and granddaughter Daysha.

Services will be held on Monday, June 3, 2024, at 10:30 AM at Kuncl Funeral Home in Wilber.  The family requests casual dress.  Visitation will be Sunday, 3- 5 PM at the funeral home.  Memorials have been designated to the Hallam Fire Department or Wilber Fire & Rescue.
