Arlene Mae Karl, 93 of Swanton, NE passed away February 12th, 2016 at the Crete Hospital.
Arlene Mae Karl was born June 7th, 1922 on a farm, southeast of Western, NE to William and
Marie Wiegers Kohlschmidt. She attended rural school district 40 and graduated from Western
High School in 1939. She worked at Petersen Manufacturing in DeWitt, NE and The Crete
Mills.
She was baptized on August 6th, 1922 at the St. Paul Parsonage Church in Western, NE and
confirmed in August of 1935 at St. John's Evangelical Church also in Western, NE. Her
confirmation verse was Psalm 86:11-Teach me thy way, 0 Lord; I will walk thy truth: unite my
heart to fear thy name.
On May 24th, 1945 she was united in marriage to Leonard Karl in Marysville, KS by Rev. Edward
Bower, Pastor of the Evangelical church.
They made their home on a farm North of Swanton for many years. In 1983, they retired and
moved to Swanton.
She was a member of the Swanton United Methodist Church, The United Methodist Women
and the president. Also a member of The Friendship Club in DeWitt, NE. She enjoyed quilting,
baking, gardening and flowers.
She is survived by daughter Arlinda and husband Jim Petersen, of Swanton. Stepson Jimmy and
wife Jane Karl also of Swanton. Five grandchildren --Holly Petersen of Branson West, MO, Alan
and wife Amy Petersen of Wilber, NE, Lonnie Karl of Swanton, NE, Andrew and wife Nicole Karl
of LaVista, NE and Bradley and wife Tracy Karl of DeWitt, NE. Six great grandchildren Grant,
Chase, Evan and Emery Petersen, Quentin Karl and Braxton Karl.
She was preceded in death by her parents Marie and William Kohlschmidt, husband Leonard,
brothers Harold and Clarmont, sister-in-law Evelyn Kohlschmidt and nephew Gary Kohlschmidt.
Services: Wednesday, (2-17-2016), 10:30 am, Swanton United Methodist Church. Visitation: Tuesday, 5:30 - 8:00 am, Kuncl Funeral Home, Wilber. Interment: Swanton Cemetery.
