Obituary

Brian K. Carnes, 52, of Crete, Nebraska, passed away unexpectedly from heart complications on April 14, 2021 in Lincoln.  He was born in Monmouth, Illinois on September 20, 1968 to Robert and Linda (Kelley) Carnes.  He lived in Crete since 1978 and graduated from Crete High School in 1987.  He was joined in union to Sheri Johnson in 1989.  They were blessed with two children:  Bobby Thomas and Kellie Lynn.  Later on, Brian married Brenda.  He became a second father to her two children:  Jennifer Ann and Jeffrey Alexander.  Brian was employed at Nestle Purina since 1988 where he worked many different roles.  He was active in Crete City Council, beginning in 2018.  He became a member of Sacred Heart Church in 2011 and served as the Grand Knight with the Knights of Columbus.  Brian was actively involved in the community as so many people know.  He could be seen working the concessions stand for Crete Public Schools at a variety of events.  For many years he helped run the chains for the Crete Football chain gang.  He also served with God-Teen Parents as Bingo Master.  In his younger years, he did Figure 8, enduro, and dirt track racing.  Brian loved spending time with his family and many good friends.  He would take them on camping trips and fishing trips and enjoyed hunting.  He did lots of work during harvest with Lorenz Farms where he was known as their right hand man.  Many will remember Brian working outside in his yard which he took great pride in.  He was a huge supporter of his children and grandchildren in all of their activities, especially sporting events, where he was actively involved with Youth and Legion baseball.  Brian was well-liked by many people, as he would always be willing to lend a hand to help when someone needed it.  He was preceded in death by his grandparents and his father, Robert Carnes.  Brian is survived by his wife:  Brenda Carnes of Crete.  Children:  Bobby (Telisha) Carnes of DeWitt, Kellie (Adam) Lundy of Crete, Jennifer Kuncl (Shane Parker) of Hastings, and Jeffrey Kuncl of Crete.  Mother:  Linda Carnes of Crete.  Parents in law:  Diane and Richard Burianek of Pleasant Dale.  Brother:  Michael (Kristen) Carnes of Clive, Iowa.  Sister:  Brandy Garrison (Randy Homolka) of Wilber.  Brother in law:  Brian Burianek of Pleasant Dale.  Grandchildren:  Brexton, Allora-May and Silas Carnes and Vera Slama-Schwisow, all of DeWitt.  Nephews and nieces:  Drew and Miley Garrison of Wilber and Kiana and Tessa Carnes of Clive, Iowa, Kourtney Burianek of Pleasant Dale.  In lieu of flowers, memorials will be designated to establish and scholarship fund in memory of Brian.  A Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, April 20, 2021 at 10:30 A.M. at Sacred Heart Church in Crete. The service will be livestreamed and can be accessed via the Sacred Heart Church Crete-NE Facebook page. The Rosary Service will be on Monday at 7:00 P.M. at the church.  Visitation will be on Monday from 3:00 to 6:00 P.M. at Kuncl Funeral Home in Crete.   Arrangements have been entrusted to Kuncl Funeral Home in Crete.
