Candy K. Bishop, 70, passed away with family by her side on Wednesday, April 15, 2026, at the Crete Medical Center.
Candy was born on December 31, 1955, in Norton, Kansas, to Christopher A. and Estella M. (Culp) Sr. A woman who thrived on connection, Candy spent her life in roles that allowed her to interact with her community. Her warmth and vibrant personality turned many acquaintances into lifelong friends and extended family members.
On February 14, 1988, Candy was united in marriage to Raymond A. Bishop, blending their families into one. She was a devoted matriarch who found her greatest joy in her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband, Raymond Bishop of Crete, NE; her children, Michael (Lauren) Smee of Spring Hill, FL, Keri (Reggie) Borzekofski of Beatrice, NE, and Nicole (Craig) Higgins of Crete, NE; and step-sons, Jeremy (Renatta Ringer) Bishop of Dwight, NE, and Jeff (Pam) Bishop of Florida.
Her legacy continues through her grandchildren: Michael Smee, Jr., Jade Smee, Justin Gabriel, Sawyer (Candace) Ray, Jessica (Ryan Lachowski) Ray, Harley (Trevor Williams) Ray, Alexus (Michael) McCullough, and Conor (Elissa) Gray. She is also survived by her great-grandchildren: Caius, Gatlen, Swayze, Graysen, Carter, Rowan, Lena, Eri, Aiden McCullough, Wade McCullough and Stormy Lachowski. She also leaves behind her brothers, Jerry, Kerry (Stephanie), Terry, and Gary (Leslie) Culp; her sister, Betty; and a large circle of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Candy was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Larry Culp; and her sister, Margie Roller.
Cremation has taken place. In accordance with Candy’s wishes, a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date to allow friends and family to gather and share their favorite memories.
The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to the doctors and staff at Crete Medical Center for the exceptional care and compassion shown to Candy during her illness.
Arrangements are under the direction of Kuncl Funeral Home in Crete.
