Fictum
May 23, 1937 – March 28, 2026
Carol Jean (Jelinek) Fictum, age 88, passed away peacefully on March 28, 2026 at the Wilber Care Center in Wilber, NE. She was born on May 23, 1937 to Emil and Bessie (Sefrna) Jelinek. Carol grew up on the farm west of Wilber as the only child, and spent many days helping her parents on the farm doing chores, milking cows, working in the fields, and spending time on the porch playing with her dolls and all of her pets. She went to country school and then attended Wilber High School graduating in 1955. She then attended Doane college and received her teaching certificate. Later on, she was an instructor for SCC continuing education classes.
She was united in marriage to Ramon Fictum on June 8, 1958. Ramon and Carol then started their family by adopting Gwen and Bruce. Carol loved being a housewife and mother and loved being active in all her children’s activities.
Carol was very active in many various organizations and spent many hours volunteering for various events. As an active member of the Wilber United Methodist Church, you could always count on her helping to prepare meals for Czech Days. She was also involved with Saline County Area Transit. She was a very kindhearted and caring person who would help anyone in need. She was never too busy to bake someone some fresh kolaches or rolls. Her love for cooking and gardening kept her plenty busy on many days. Even into her late 80’s she still mowed her yard and tended to her large garden. Taking care of her chickens and ducks also was a favorite of hers.
Carol is preceded in death by her husband Ramon, children: Gwen (Buntgen) and Bruce (BJ), her parents Emil and Bessie Jelinek, and in laws: Victor and Evelyn Fictum.
She is survived by her son in law Wayne Buntgen, and grandchildren: Tyler and Rachel
