Carol L. (Pillard) Svehla passed away on February 27, 2016 at Friend Manor in Friend, NE. She was born on May 26, 1942 in San Diego, CA to Dean and Ardis Pillard. After the war the family settled in Malcolm, NE. Carol was baptized and confirmed at the Malcolm United Methodist Church. She attended and graduated from Malcolm Public Schools. Carol married Willard Beckman and had 2 sons, Harold and John.

Later in life she married Leonard Svehla. They lived in Crete, NE and together they enjoyed gardening, doing puzzles and fixing up their home.

Carol was a committed American Legion Auxiliary member for 43 years, logging thousands of volunteer hours. She was also a fantastic cook; her potato salad and rhubarb pie were famous. She loved being a grandma to her 4 grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Dean and Ardis Pillard, brother, Ed Pillard and step-mother, Dorothy Pillard.

Carol is survived by her husband, Leonard Svehla of Crete; sons, Harold (Alicia) Beckman of Garland, John (Rosalyn) Beckman of Malcolm; step-son, Corrie Svehla of Lincoln; 4 grandchildren and 1 great grandson; many sisters-in-laws, nieces, nephews and cousins.

A Memorial Service will be held at 10:30 AM on Wednesday, March 2, 2016 at Kuncl Funeral Home, Crete with Pastor Matthew Tassey officiating. A book signing will be held on Tuesday from 3-8 PM with family greeting friends from 6-7:30 PM at the funeral home. Inurnment will be at the Malcolm Cemetery on Wednesday at 3:00 PM.
