Charles Zach Jr. was born on June 24th, 1935 on a farm west of Wilber to Charley Zach Sr. and Augusta
(Kasparek) Zach. Charlie passed away on August 11, 2016 at the Wilber Care Center at the age of 81.
Charlie attended grade school near his home till the 8th grade. He served in the United States Army
during the Korean War 4-1-1954 and then had an Honorable Discharge on 3-29-1957. Member of the American Legion Louis Milan Post # 101 of Wilber. He Retired from American Tool Company ( Peterson Manufacturing) June 24th, 1997 after 44 years.
Charlie learned at a young age to fish and hunt and enjoyed doing these with family and friends over the
years, Charlie had won several Master Angler awards throughout his life time.
Charlie love to plant a garden of tomatoes and cucumbers and onions, he would always buy certain
kinds of vegetables and he had a certain way of growing them and caring for them, his garden was
always planted early and then a week before the 1st Husker football game the garden was cleaned out
and ready for the next year. As that was the start of football season, Charlie loved ALL sports, from high
school, to college, to Pro, he watched it all. After football season was over with he would go right into
the next sport of basketball, baseball, and even girls volleyball. Charlie was a hat collector and he has a
hat for every college and pro team over the years and on game day he had his favorites he would wear.
Charlie subscribed to all the area newspapers and would keep up with all the sports and even cut
articles and game day schedules form the papers, Charlie would also enjoy beating on the games to.
Over the years Charlie and a good friend would take turns driving down to Kansas to the local casino
trying to win big, he would never say if he won, but he always had a good time.
Charlie enjoyed the Czech Festival, from the music to the food and even reading up on the Queen
Contestants, when he lived at the Wilber Care Center he got to meet many of the Queens as they would
make their appearance out there along with the Czech Besada dancers and the Wilber Alumni Band.
When Charlie lived at home he had many friends and family that came to his house to watch the parade
and visit with him. Many years ago a sign was made for Charlie to hang on his front porch during Czech
Days "Old Czechs never die they just polka away"
Charlie lived a long full life, we remember his smile, his generosity, and all those when he touched our
hearts.
Charlie was preceded in death by his Parents, Brothers Bob & Eddie and Sister Helen.
He is survived by Brothers, Gene & wife Mary Ann Zach of Lincoln, Alvin & wife Phyllis of Lincoln, and
Frank & wife Lois of Wilber, Sister-in-Laws Mary Ann Zach of Wilber, Helen Zach of Wilber, and many
Nieces and Nephews
Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday, August 15, 2016 at Kuncl Funeral Home in Wilber, Nebraska with Father Craig Doty will officiating. Visitation will be on Sunday from 4-7 PM at the funeral home. Interment at Wilber Czech Cemetery. Memorials in lieu of flowers to may be directed to Wilber Fire and Rescue.
