Obituary

Cheryl Stejskal, age 71, passed away on April 20, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family. Cheryl’s life was defined by devotion—to her husband, her children, her grandchildren, and to the quiet, steady joys that made her happiest.

Born to Merle and Peggy Gregg, Cheryl grew up with a deep appreciation for family, hard work, and the simple beauty of everyday life. She carried those values with her throughout her years, shaping a life filled with love, loyalty, and gentle strength. She was preceded in death by her parents; her grandparents, Theodore (Doc) and Lola Hermsen; and her sister, Debby Gregg, all of whom she held close in her heart.

Cheryl is survived by her loving husband, David Stejskal, with whom she shared a bond built on partnership, laughter, and countless shared moments. Cheryl loved horses and dogs. She most enjoyed watching horses that she had raised from babies ’race at Nebraska tracks. Cheryl found comfort and purpose in these simple routines. To David, she was not only a wife but a true partner in every sense.

Cheryl’s love extended deeply to her children: Kris Svoboda, Justin Elledge (Stacy), and Jason Elledge (Stephanie); and to her stepchildren: Janelle Janecek, Daniel Stejskal, and Dayton Stejskal. She embraced each of them with warmth and pride, celebrating their milestones and supporting their challenges.

Her heart grew even fuller with the arrival of her ten grandchildren and one great‑grandchild, each of whom brought her immeasurable joy.

Cheryl was a woman who didn’t need grand gestures to make an impact. Her legacy is found in everyday moments, the way she showed up for the people she loved, the way she cared for her home and animals, the way she found beauty in a quiet drive or a shared chore. She lived with humility, kindness, and a deep appreciation for the life she built.

Those who knew Cheryl will carry forward her gentle spirit, her steady love, and the memories of a woman who gave so much of herself to the people she cherished. Her presence will be deeply missed.

No services will be held in honor of Cheryl's wishes. Memorials designated to Crete Fire and Rescue. Arrangements entrusted to Kuncl Funeral Home in Crete.
