Curtis Dale Wanek of Wilber, Nebr. was born in Lincoln, Nebr. on March 15, 1947 to Elmer and Leona (Bors) Wanek and passed away on December 10, 2105 at home with his family by his side at the age of 68 years and 8 months.
After graduating from high school he attended one year at Southeast Community College in Milford. He was united in marriage to Dianne Sue Houser on November 29, 1969 at the Methodist Church in Wilber, Nebr. The couple made their home in Geneva and moved to Wilber in July of 1974. He served in the Army Reserves from 1967 to 1973. He worked various jobs and then was employed with Waneks of Crete until they closed and Hills Furniture in Beatrice working in the warehouse/delivery for both employers.
He loved watching Nebraska Huskers ballgames, either women or men and enjoyed watching his grandsons play ball. He bowled for many years, loved feeding wild birds outside and giving them water, then would sit for hours watching them. He also shared playing video games with his children.
He is survived by his wife; Dianne of Wilber, sons; Don and wife Terri Wanek of Crete, Brad Wanek and Scott Wanek both of Lincoln, granddaughters; Samantha and Chris Burnett of Broken Bow, Jordan and Geoff Unick of Pleasanton, Nebr., Megan Wanek of Crete, Star Case, Amanda Case, and Brietta Case, all of Crete, Grandsons; Riley Wanek of Pleasanton, Nebr., Kyle Wanek, Benjamin Wanek, Chris Case and friend Amber Kress, Dimitri Case, and Darius Case, all of Crete, great granddaughters; Aubrey and Clarissa Burnett, Shayla Zimmerman and great grandson; Wyatt Lee due to be born at the end of January 2016. He is also survived by his brother; Leslie Wanek (Bernice) of Lincoln.
Curtis was preceded in death by his parents; Elmer and Leona Wanek and aunt and uncles.
Funeral services are December 16, 2015, 10:30 Am at Kuncl Funeral Home in Wilber, Nebr. Pastor Brent Braunberger officiating. Interment at Wilber Czech Cemetery. Pallbearers; Chris Burnett, Geoff Unick, Chris Case, Riley Wanek, Kyle Wanek, Dimitri Case, Ben Wanek and Darius Case. Memorials to family in lieu of flowers.
