Cynthia Kay Drake, age 58, departed this earth for her heavenly home on March 28 after a courageous 3 year battle with ovarian cancer.
Cindy was born on February 17th 1958 in Beatrice, NE to Robert and Engelina (Hagemeier) Zulauf. Cindy was baptized on March 9, 1958 and confirmed on May 7, 1972 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Plymouth. Cindy grew up in Plymouth and went to elementary school at St. Paul's Lutheran School. She graduated from Tri-County Schools in 1976. On March 28, 1977 she was united in marriage to Bradley Drake in Fairbury. They started their family in Western but moved to Wilber shortly after where they have lived ever since. Cindy worked for the Wilber Republican for many years and also at American Tool until they closed in 2008. Her most recent position was election clerk for the Saline County Clerks office.
Cindy was a member of First Lutheran Church in Wilber where she played the organ, sang in the choir and played in the chime choir. She loved spending her time supporting her 6 grandchildren at their various events. Cindy touched the lives of many people with her kindness and faith and maintained her role of caregiver until the end.
Cindy was preceded in death by her father Robert Zulauf, parents-in-law Gerald(Bud) & Velma Drake, niece Shelby Owens, 3 brothers-in-law Allen(Ike) Drake, Douglas (Otis)Drake & Larry Breemes.
Cindy is survived by her husband Bradley Drake; mother Engelina (Angie) Zulauf; children Amanda & Jeremy Connelly, Andrew & Jamie Drake, Adam & Dee Drake. Grandchildren Tyler & Brianna Connelly, Katie Schroeder & Caleb Drake, Carly & Molly Drake. Brother Thomas & Bonnie Zulauf; Sisters Vicki & Bob Frerking, DeAnn & Dan Huls; Brothers-in-law Bruce & Ruth Drake, John & Lorie Drake; Sisters-in-law Janice Breemes, JoAnn & George Roesler, Barb Drake, Mary Drake, Carolyn & Bob Neihouse, Catherine Moran, Kathy & James Brueggemann, Rhonda & Daryl Drewes, Barb & Bob Vnoucek, Denise & Frank Myers; and a multitude of nephews, nieces and friends.
Funeral Services are Thursday, 10 AM, First Lutheran Church, Wilber. Visitation: Wednesday, 5 – 8 PM, Kuncl Funeral Home, Wilber. Memorials are in care of the family in lieu of flowers.
Pallbearers are: Bryce Buggi, Evan Ely, Todd Frerking, Travis Frerking, Jamie Hunt, Jesse Krebs, Kelly Mitchell. Honorary pallbearers are: Tanner Chesnut, Allen Mitchell, Shawn Owens.
