Obituary

David Alan Shestak, 71, died July 29th 2016 after battling Alzheimer's disease. He was born on May 29th, 1945 in Lincoln, Nebraska to the late Richard and Laurette Shestak and was the oldest of 3 children. He married Barbara Hanner of Stuart, Iowa in January, 1967 and from their union came two daughters, Antonia and Jennifer and a son, Ryan, who died at birth. He attended Northwest Missouri State University where he earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Education. He furthered his education and attended University of Missouri, Kansas City where he earned his Masters of Arts degree in Theatre. He went on to join the faculty at Northwest Missouri State University as an instructor for Speech & Theatre. He began working for Ortho Pharmaceuticals in 1980 in pharmaceutical sales prior to taking a position with Johnson & Johnson as the Director of State Government Affairs where he diligently worked for 28 years until his retirement. David loved the arts and loved nothing more than creating something whether woodworking, painting or designing. David was an active leader in the Alzheimer's community in Sacramento prior to his own disease progression. He loved singing in various community choirs, attending worship at the Spiritual Life Center in Sacramento, CA, bike riding, yoga, catching up with an old friend, making a new friend and spending time with his family and grandbabies. He moved to San Antonio, Texas in January 2016 as his health rapidly declined and he needed additional support.

Survivors include his daughter, Antonia Weeden; daughter Jennifer (Matt) Mallory; his 5 beloved grandchildren, Amanda Weeden, Jessica Harris, Jewel Harris, Jacob Mallory and Bennett Mallory; his brother, William "Bill" (Mona) Shestak; his sister, Marilou (Steve) Dohe and his wonderful aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews.

A private family celebration will be held in remembrance of David's life at the Wilber Czech Cemetery in Wilber, Nebraska. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in David's honor to the Alzheimer's Association. Condolences may be left at kunclfh.com. Arrangements entrusted to Kuncl Funeral Home, Wilber, Nebraska.
