David Kent Wood was born in Beatrice, Ne on October 17, 1952 to Kent and Blanche Wood of DeWitt, Ne. He died unexpectedly at Bryan East Hospital in Lincoln on May 2, 2023 after a brief illness with family at his side.

David lived in DeWitt for eight years and then the family moved to Clatonia, Ne. David graduated from Wilber-Clatonia High School. He worked for Petersen Manufacturing in DeWitt, Ne till the factory closed.

He has resided at Garden Square Assisted Living in Crete, Ne since July, 2016.

David loved living at Garden Square. He enjoyed visiting with other residents, staff and any visitors that came into Garden Square. No one was a stranger to him for very long. He enjoyed participating in the numerous activities, entertainment, going out to eat with the group, playing cards, bingo, UNO and a horse racing game. David enjoyed reading Westerns and was a part of the book talk group from the Crete library.

He was a member of the St Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Wilber, Ne where he was a member of Knights of Columbus and Cursillo. He enjoyed helping with various church activities, including baking kolaches for Czech Days. David was a longtime past volunteer at the Crete Food Net. He was also a former member of the Clatonia volunteer fire department.

David was very proud of his nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. He was always interested in what they were doing in their jobs, school and other activities and enjoyed telling others what they were involved in. He was very caring and considerate of others. He enjoyed visiting with family and friends on the phone and the weekly zoom meeting with family.

David is survived by his sister, Corinne Koch; brothers Gerald (Judy) Wood and Paul (Vonnie) Wood all of Lincoln; nieces Alicia (Matt) Zajicek of Wilber, Kelly (Dan) Honz of Omaha, Kim Wood of Alexandria, VA and Bethany (Ryley) Egger of Lincoln; nephews Brent (Courtney) Koch of McCook Lake, SD, Scott (Kelsey Swartz) Wood of San Diego, CA and Brian Wood of Longmont. CO; Aunt Leatrice Wood of Devine, TX; great nieces and nephews Aiden and Brynn Zajicek, Kendall and Carter Koch and Evan and Lucy Honz; many cousins and friends and all the staff and residents at Garden Square, especially Doug Fictum.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Kent and Blanche, brother-in-law Rodney Koch, numerous aunts and uncles.

Funeral services are at 10:30 am on Friday, May 19, 2023 at St Wenceslaus Catholic Church, 501 North Wilson, Wilber, Ne. Visitation is 10:00 am to 7:00 pm on Thursday, May 18, 2023 at Kuncl Funeral Home, 607 West 3rd Street, Wilber, Ne. Family will be present from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm with a Rosary Service following visitation.  Memorials to St. Wenceslaus Church in Wilber, The Gardens in Crete, Crete Foodnet or The American Cancer Society.  K uncl Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
