Delores Jean (Placek) Barta was born July 11, 1929 at her parents' home northwest of Swanton, Nebraska to Ladislav and Mary L. (Slepicka) Placek, the oldest of three children, passed away December 13, 2019 in Fairbury, Nebraska at the age of 90. She was baptized in the Catholic Church along with cousins, Delores Jean (Drevo) Younger and Delores Jean (Vesely) Kennedy. Delores attended Swanton Public School graduating with the class of 1946. She then attended Doane College in Crete, Nebraska and earned her teaching certificate. After teaching in Country Schools near Swanton on August 18, 1951, she was united in marriage to Joseph L. Barta at the Methodist Church in Wilber. They resided on the Barta farm where Joe was born, also northwest of Swanton. To this union five children were born, Merry Lynn, Cathy, Johnny, Gary and Larry. While raising her family, she also worked alongside with her husband on the farm, doing countless hours of chores, milking cows, raising hogs, growing a huge garden and canning jars of vegetables and fruits to feed the family till the next summer. Throughout the years she raised and butchered hundreds of chickens, which she spoke of often, she did love those little chicks! Later on she sold Avon, worked at the Crete Hospital, and drove school bus for Tri-County Schools near DeWitt, Nebraska. She was a member of the Swanton American Legion Auxiliary Unit 258, of which she served as Treasurer for many years, and former Swanton Community Club. She was a wonderful cook. Her children can remember coming home from school and seeing the kitchen table filled with kolaches; she was also known for the delicious lemon meringue pies she baked for soup suppers and Auxiliary events. She loved raising flowers, was an avid reader, and she LOVED her country and western TV shows. Survivors include her children: Cathy (Norman) Pallas, Johnny, Gary and Larry Barta. Grandchildren, Todd Pallas, Tami Pallas, Tori (Kenny) Conklin, Justin (Jessica) Barta, Jenilee (Marc) Vogel, Jerilyn (Mitch) Schlueter. Great Grandchildren: Josilynn, Emmalynn and Brayden Barta, Brecken, Allie, and Hudson Vogel, and Tayden and Kyler Conklin, Sister: Lorraine (Allen) Smith, Sister-in-law: Irene King, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Delores was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Joseph L. in 1972, daughter, Merry Lynn Buss in 1971, and brother, Norman Placek. Services will be on Friday, December 20, 2019 at 10:30 AM at Kuncl Funeral Home in Wilber. Visitation is Thursday from 1 - 7 PM at the funeral home. Kuncl Funeral Home in Wilber is handling the arrangements. Memorials are in care of the family for future designation.
