Obituary

Delores Brhel was born on August 3, 1924 on a farm in Saline County to Otto and Vlasta (Zeman) Chab and passed away in Wilber on June 22, 2024 at the age of 99 years, 10 months and 19 days.

Delores grew up on the family farm in Saline County and graduated from Dorchester High School.  She loved volleyball and played on her high school team against Denton High School.  After graduation from high school, she taught in a country school for two years.

She met her future husband, Lumir Brhel, at a Saline Center dance.  They were married on January 10, 1945, and raised their two sons on a farm in Lancaster County.  Delores and Lumir had been married for 63 years at the time of his death in 2008.

Delores loved her family.  She also loved gardening and flowers and was still taking care of her garden at 94 years old.  She was a wonderful baker of kolaches, muffins, dinner rolls and many other delicious treats.  She passed her baking skills on to several of her grandchildren over the years.  Her love of volleyball continued in her adult years and she enjoyed watching the University of Nebraska volleyball team on television.

She was a member of the Pleasant Dale United Methodist Church, the Denton Historical Society and Blue River Eastern Star Chapter in Milford.

Delores was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her brother Gerald Chab and daughter-in-law Marie Brhel.

Survivors cherishing her memory include her sons and daughters-in-law, Gary and Pam Brhel of Lincoln and David and Eileen Brhel of rural Denton.  Her grandchildren are Christine and Jaimie Strong of Hawarden IA, Sherie and Brian Skruch of Farmers Branch TX, Brian Brhel of rural Denton, Michael and Rita Brhel of Fairfield and Timothy Brhel of Lincoln.  Great-grandchildren are Elizabeth and Eric Robbins and Jacob Strong of Hawarden IA, Alex Skruch of Dallas TX, Anna Skruch of Farmers Branch TX, Haley Brhel of rural Denton, Rachel, Emily and Nathan Brhel of Fairfield and Solomon, Gideon and Gabriel Brhel of Lincoln.
