Donald W. Pecka, age 79, passed away on Monday, July 5, 2021 surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Crete, on January 24, 1942 to Bernice (Ripa) and Adolph Pecka Jr. Don and his younger brother, Duane, grew up on the family farm southwest of Crete. The Pecka farm, established in1885, is where he developed his love of farming. Don attended School District #3 through 8th grade and graduated from Crete High School in 1959. He joined the US Army (1963-1966) and spent 2 of the 3 years in Trier, Germany. Upon returning home, he was employed by the Crete Mills (1966-1973). Don became a United States Postal employee for the next 30 years. He retired from the Crete Post Office in 2003. Don married Wyladee (Weidner), better known as Billy on June 4th, 1966 at the United Church of Christ in Crete. To this marriage, 2 daughters were born: Dionne Dee and Kari Lea. Throughout his life, Don was active in the community, belonging to the Crete Volunteer Fire Department (22 years), American Legion, and Armistice Club. He enjoyed spending time farming, playing cards, and could be found most days at a Crete High School activity, supporting his daughters and grandchildren. Survivors include: his wife of 55 years, Billy, daughters and son-in-laws Dede and Alan Moore and Kari and Jason Maly, all of Crete. Grandchildren include Carissa and Camry Moore, and Colin, Morgan, and Lauren Maly. Brother: Duane (Margie) Pecka, and niece, nephews, and cousins. Don is preceded in death by his parents: Adolph and Bernice Pecka. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 5 – 8 PM at Kuncl Funeral Home in Crete. Services will be Thursday, July 8th at 11:00 AM at the United Church of Christ in Crete. His kindness and compassion for his family and the community of Crete will long be remembered. Memorials to CAMC Foundation or CHS Athletic Boosters. Arrangements entrusted to Kuncl Funeral Home in Crete.
