Dorothy C. Hier, 84 of Crete, passed away on Monday February 13,2017 at Bryan
East Hospital in Lincoln. She was born February 18, 1932 to George and Clara
Underwood, in Templeton, Iowa. The family later moved to Crete, where she graduated
from Crete High School. She attended nursing school until she married Everett Hier on
September 29, 1951.
She was a homemaker and raised her four children, because she was very family
oriented. She worked at H&R Block and later started TCA Tax Service with Bobbie
Novak and Barb Mariska, and continued the tax service, as well as selling and installing
tax programs until her health declined. She served many years on the election board, was
a member of the Extension Club, Girls Club, member of NSTP Tax Group, Altar Society.
She was a very devote Catholic and was a long time member of Sacred Heart Catholic
Church. She helped with the books for Hillside Service and Continental Trailways Bus.
She loved to read, enjoyed photography, cooking, gardening, and travel. And enjoyed
numerous family vacations. Other hobbies were collecting angels and bells.
Preceded in death by her parents, sisters Norma Underwood, Marion Gill, and
Ruby Tyler, brother-in-law Tim Gill, Harry Goeglein, and many other brother and sister
in laws.
She is survived by her husband Everett "Ebbe" Hier, of 65 years, children Trish
Spanjer (Gregg Sliwka) of La Quinta, California, David (Kim) Hier, RoseMarie (Henry)
Kleineweber all of Crete, and Pamela Hier of Lincoln, sister Pat (Dan) Murray, Ruth
Goeglein, and brother George(Eunice) Underwood, sister-in-law Helen Hier. Grand
children Jessica (Brandon) Koopman, Tiffany (Troy) Renk, Cassie (Kelle) McKormick,
Michelle, Jenny, and Nicole Kleineweber, and seven great grandchildren. Cousins, many
nieces and nephews, and numerous friends.
Memorial mass will be April 29th at 11:00 am, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials directed to the family for a later designation.
