Dwaine G. Bauer was born May 10, 1934 in Crete, NE to Edwin and Zelma (Malone) Bauer. He went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on September 7, 2016 at the Grand Island Veterans' Home where he had been a resident since January of 2014.
Dwaine attended Crete schools and after his senior year in 1952, he went to work at the Fairmont Creamery. On January 9, 1953 Dwaine enlisted in the United States Air Force. After serving for 2 years and 2 months, he was granted a hardship discharge. He returned to Crete to help his father, who was in failing health, in the family business.
After the business was sold, Dwaine moved to Omaha where he attended barber school. Upon graduation, he returned to Crete and started barbering in Mooberry's Barber Shop. He eventually bought the building and business in 1975 and in 2010 he received a certificate from The State of Nebraska for 50 years of service. He continued cutting hair in the same location until his retirement in 2011.
In 1965 he was married to Glenda Claussen. Two sons were born of this union. They were divorced 21 years later but remained good friends.
Dwaine is survived by sons, Larry of Pueblo West, CO and Randy and wife, Allison of Henderson, NE; two grandsons, Justin and Joshua; 1 granddaughter, Brooklyn; sisters and spouses Virginia and Jesse Bell of Lincoln, Judy and Rene Tesar of Omaha; nieces and nephews; Glenda Bauer and many other friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Valerie Stuart and daughter-in-law, Kelli Bauer.
Dwaine will be remembered for his friendliness and sense of humor. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, horse racing, football and a good game of poker.
A Memorial Service will be held at 10:30 AM on Tuesday, September 13, 2016 at Kuncl Funeral Home in Crete with Rev. Dr. Wayne Reynolds officiating . There will be no viewing, Dwaine's wishes were to be cremated. A guest book signing will be available at Kuncl Funeral Home, Crete from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM on Monday, September 12, 2016. Inurnment will be at Blue Valley Cemetery, Crete. Memorials may be directed to the family for future designation. Condolences may be left at kunclfh.com.
