Doremus
February 7, 1935 – March 24, 2019
Dwayne M. Doremus, 84, of Crete, passed away March 24, 2019 at the Wilber Care Center. He was born on February 7, 1935 at the family home in Utica, NE to James and Minnie (Pohzel) Doremus. He was the youngest of 10 boys and 3 girls. Dwayne attended Lutheran grade school, years 1 – 8, and then went to high school for 2 years. He was confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church. While growing up, Dwayne had a paper route and a milk route. He worked at the Houchin Book Bindery for 3 years and then as a gravel truck driver and mechanic for 1 year. He also worked in a bowling alley in between his other jobs. In October of 1954, he moved to Crete and went to work as a linotype operator for the Crete News. Dwayne met Lorene Prokop in the summer of 1958 and they were married on February 7, 1959. They lost their son, James, in 2000. Dwayne enjoyed woodworking, fishing, doing puzzles, collecting clocks, keychains, and model cars, visiting with people and telling stories, listening to country music, and of course was an avid Husker Football fan. He is survived by his wife: Lorene, daughters and son in law: Elizabeth Harsh, Teresa and Erwin Badman, 7 grandchildren, and many great grandchildren. Services will be held at 10:30 AM, Thursday, (3-28-2019), Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Crete, NE. Visitation is on Wednesday, 1 – 5 PM, Kuncl Funeral Home, Crete. Memorials are in care of the family and may be sent in care of Teresa Badman, 1716 County Rd. 600, Tobias, NE 68453. Kuncl Funeral Home in Crete is handling arrangements.
