Edward Paul Sand, 76, of Crete, passed away January 14, 2016 at home. He was born on May 22, 1939 on a farm near Blockton, Iowa to Clemens and Clara (Vosika) Sand. Ed graduated high school from Blockton. He then attended Northwest Missouri State for 2 years, after which he studied general nursing for 2 more years in Maryville. Ed worked as a computer technician for General Motors in Kansas City, MO for 6 years and then in Atlanta, GA for another 14 years. He then lived in Blockton, IA for 20 years before moving back to Crete. Ed cared for his mother, Clara, during her later years. He was a handyman and enjoyed helping his friends farm. Perhaps most importantly was Ed's love for photography. Even though he did not receive any special training, he taught himself how to use a camera to capture those special moments that would have gone by unnoticed. The many photobooks he made over the years can attest to that. Ed was preceded in death by both of his parents and his sister: Mary Claire. He is survived by aunts, uncles, cousins, and many special friends. Services are Wednesday (1/20/2016), 10:30 am, Kuncl Funeral Home, Crete. Visitation is on Tuesday, 5 – 8 pm, funeral home. Interment in Riverside Cemetery, Crete. Memorials are in care of the family in lieu of flowers.
