Eileene Nadine Sand of Lincoln formerly of Crete, passed away with family by her side on Sunday, April 29, 2018 at the age of 93 years. She was born on October 4, 1924 to Ed and Helen (Holecek) Daum in Crete, Nebraska. After graduation from Crete High School in 1942 Eileene worked at the Crete Mills until her marriage to John "Ernie" Sand in 1949.
She was active in Sacred Heart Altar Society, VFW Ladies Auxiliary and volunteered at Lincoln General Hospital. She enjoyed quilting, sewing and crocheting. Eileene worked at Doane College in the business office until the age of 70. She enjoyed all NU Women's sports and of course, NU football.
Eileene is preceded in death by her parents, husband; Ernie and brother Dr. Harold F. Daum, MD.
Left to cherish her memory are her three children; Mary Ann Bancke (Richard) of Papillion, Nebraska, Barb Sand of Lincoln, Nebraska and Ben Sand (Nancy) of Lincoln, Nebraska, grandchildren and great grandchildren, Kyle Bancke (Lindy) and Ezra of Golden Valley, Minnesota, Jon Bancke and Blake of Omaha, Nebraska, Laura Lanning (Greg) and Harrison and Bode of Gretna, Nebraska, Aaron Bishop Sand (Joanne) of Washington, DC, Andy Sand (Steph) and Emi of Omaha, Nebraska and Elli White and Avery of Lincoln, Nebraska, and her dear friend and high school classmate Myrtha Wolverton, and special family friend Coleen Lovitt.
The family would like to thank Janet Wolfe, MD and Amiee for their kindness and care of mom over the years. Also, the staff of Legacy Assisted Living who helped make her feel at home and comfortable.
Mom wished Memorials go to the Alzheimer's Association in Lincoln in memory of Ernie or masses to Sacred Heart Church, Crete, Nebraska.
Mass of Christian burial will be held on Monday, 10:30 A.M., May 7, 2018 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Crete, Nebraska. Visitation, Sunday, 5 PM to 8 PM, with Rosary at 7 pm at Kuncl Funeral Home, Crete, Nebraska. Interment at Sacred Heart Cemetery, Crete, Nebraska.
