Elizabeth Ann (Smejkal, Krull) Brown was born October 1, 1931, in Crete, Nebraska to Joseph J. and
Bertha A. Smejkal. She left this earth on August 16, 2016, at Tabitha of Crete, after a brief battle with
colon cancer. She is survived by her children: Steven (Janie) Krull of Wichita, Kansas; Richard (Pamela)
Krull of Colorado Springs, Colorado; Susan (Don) Kennedy, of Sugar Land, Texas; Karen Krull Robart, of
Syracuse, New York; Robert (Jeanette) Krull, of Wilber; Catherine (Timothy) Hatley, of Manhattan,
Kansas; and Christine (Rick) Kennedy, of Lincoln; 19 grandchildren, and 34 great-grandchildren. She is
also survived by a brother, Robert Smejkal, of Omaha, two sisters, Teresa Javorsky, of Crete, and
Catherine Shafer, of Seward, plus numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters, Margaret Wood (Eureka, California) and Mary Sedlack (Omaha); granddaughter Ashley Kennedy (Lincoln).
Elizabeth graduated from Crete High School in 1949. She married Omer Krull in1950; they divorced in 1980. She was married to Ray Brown in 1981; they separated in 1989 and divorced in 1993. Betty lived in Crete for the majority of her life; she was a lifelong member of Sacred Heart Catholic Parish. A homemaker for most of her adult life, she had also worked for the Nebraska Regional Center and Blue Valley Community Action, in addition to providing in-home child care for a number of families.
A Memorial Mass will be held at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, September 21, 2016 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Crete. A Rosary will be held at 7:00 PM on Tuesday, September 20th at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Inurnment will take place at Lincoln Memorial Park. Memorial gifts may be made to the Sacred Heart Parish Building Fund.
