Obituary

Ella Marie (Knobel) Da Moude, 94 years of age, of Holdrege, Nebraska, formerly of Crete, passed away on Monday, December 5, 2016 at Holdrege Memorial Homes. She was born on October 11, 1922 near Stockham, Nebraska in Hamilton County, the daughter of Henry and Marie (Reich) Knobel. She was raised on a farm and had an older brother, LaMoin who died during WWII in a training exercise and a younger brother, Calvin who died shortly after birth. Ella received her education from Stockham, graduating from Stockham Public High School with the class of 1940. Shortly after graduation, the family moved to Wichita, Kansas, where she attended Wichita Business College. Her father, Henry, managed a dairy store. Ella later was employed at Cessna Aircraft Company in the accounting department during the war. After the war, Ella returned to Nebraska making her home in Lincoln, and worked at Lincoln Telephone & Telegraph in the telephone directory compellation department. During this time, she met Dean Da Moude who was attending the University of Nebraska after serving in the U.S. Marines and fighting in the South Pacific. They were married on August 21, 1948. Following his graduation from the University of Nebraska, they moved to West Point, Nebraska, where Dean was employed by the U.S. Dept. of Agriculture as a Soil Scientist. Ella and Dean had two children: Denise and Dennis. Ella was a homemaker until the children reached Junior High School and then she worked as a secretary for the West Point Public Schools. Dean and Ella were both very active in their church and Scouting as well. Ella was a Girl Scout Leader and Dean was a Boy Scout Leader. They enjoyed attending their children's sporting activities as well as going on camping vacations and tending to their garden. In 1979, Dean was transferred to Saline County, where he worked out of the Wilber office and the couple made their home in Crete. Shortly after moving, Ella was employed by the Crete Public High School until her retirement in 1985. They continued to garden, learned to square dance and enjoyed taking bus tours throughout the United States and Canada. Ella was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church in Crete, where she was a member of the United Methodist Women. Throughout the years, Ella was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Girl Scout Leader in West Point, and served as a past president of the West Point GFWC. Dean preceded Ella in death in 1995. She continued to make her home in Crete until moving to Holdrege Memorial Homes on February 28, 2011. Besides her parents and her and husband, Dean; Ella was preceded in death by her two brothers and a great-granddaughter, Abigail Da Moude. She leaves to celebrate her life; her daughter, Denise Da Moude of Virginia Beach, Virginia; her son, Dennis Da Moude and his wife, Janet of Holdrege; two grandchildren: Sarah Fuss and her husband, Adrian of Kimball, Nebraska and Adam Da Moude and his wife, Mary of Waco, Texas; seven great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. A memorial has been established in Ella's honor and kindly suggested to the Grace United Methodist Church or the Gideon's International. Condolences can be sent in care of, Dennis Da Moude at 1304 Pamela Avenue, Holdrege, Nebraska 68949. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 10, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at the Grace United Methodist Church in Crete, Nebraska with Reverend Dr. Wayne Reynolds officiating. Viewing will be 1 hour prior to the services. Following the services, a time of fellowship and luncheon will be held at the church. Interment will be held in the Lincoln Memorial Park at Lincoln, Nebraska at 1:30 p.m. The Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege, Nebraska and the Kuncl Funeral Home in Crete, Nebraska are assisting the family with the arrangements.
