Obituary

Elmer C. Kunz, 95, of Denton, passed away on July 14, 2016. Elmer was born on March 9, 1921 near Hallam, Nebraska to Al and Lydia (Bargman) Kunz. As a young boy, his family moved to a farm east of Crete. Elmer married Leona Melichar on March 7, 1945 and they had three daughters, Marilyn, Luana and Jan. Elmer and Leona made their home on the Melichar family farm near Denton where they raised cattle, horses, sheep, chickens and rabbits and farmed the land. At age 65 Elmer became a professional sheep shearer and began shearing sheep for other farmers in the southeast Nebraska region. Elmer enjoyed visiting and playing cards with friends and neighbors, telling stories, dancing, rodeos and also hunting coyotes and raccoon.

Elmer is survived by his daughters--Marilyn Giles, Luana (Dave) Petsche, Jan Morse; sister—Darlene Prieb; Grand Children—Doug Giles, LeAnn (Tim) Johns, Valerie Andersen (Kent Zoz), John (Tonya) Petsche, Alan (Nicole) Morse, Jerad (Tisha) Morse, Dustin Morse (fiancé JoAnne Johnson); Great Grand Children—ZaRaya Giles, Audrey Back, Shana and Emily Johns, Ashlee, Johnny and Kirk Andersen, Mikayla Petsche; Avory and Quinnley Morse, Aron, Kolt, Reece and Cyrus Morse; Ashley, Dezarae and Austin Douthit; Cameron (Lindsey) Worden; Caden Huskey; Great-Great Grand Children--Brooklynn Back, Ellie Andersen and Addison Petersen

Preceded in Death by his wife—Leona (Melichar) Kunz; Parents—Al and Lydia Kunz; grandson—Adam Morse; parents-in-law—Henry and Anna Melichar and Mary Melichar; son-in-law—Melvin Giles; brothers-in-law—Ralph Prieb and Cliff Morter; nieces—Rita and Susan Prieb.

Services 1 p.m. Monday, July 18, 2016 at Kuncl Funeral Home, Crete; burial at Riverside Cemetery, Crete; luncheon to follow at Denton Legion Hall, Denton. Visitation Sunday from 5-8 p.m., Kuncl Funeral Home, Crete. Memorials in care of the family. Casual attire requested.
