Obituary

Ervin Victor Fuchs, 92, of Wilber, NE passed away on June 18, 2019, at the Wilber Care Center. He was born on August 2, 1926 to Emil Sr. & Bessie Fuchs. He attended Wilber School and graduated in 1944. Ervin was called to Military Service during the last draft of W. W. II. On a cold day in March 1946, he left to serve in the Navy. He was stationed in Seattle, Washington. There he dismantled and cleaned up Navy ships and Aircraft Carriers. He was also assigned to a legal office where he typed discharge papers and made departure arrangements for anxious solders awaiting to go home. With his athletic ability and strong farm build, he was asked to participate on the Navy swim and track teams. After returning home he helped his Dad on the farm. Ervin married Lavina Tachovsky on November 15, 1953. Together they made their home on the farm west of Wilber, where he was raised. Ervin resided there until 2019. To their marriage, were born 2 daughters, Betty and Susan. Ervin's passion was always farming and raising livestock. But mostly he just enjoyed the outdoors. Any spare time was spent helping in the garden or working around the yard. He enjoyed all the produce from the garden and orchard. He operated some of the machines in his Dad's Blacksmith shop and you often would find him in the shop sharpening and fixing tools. Ervin was an active member of the American Legion. He helped with the Legion Park upkeep, steak nights, and Czech Days, until his health kept him from doing so. He served on the Wilber Farmers Coop Elevator Board for several years. Ervin retired from farming in 1994. He had a wonderful life doing what he loved, working and living on the farm. Ervin's soft spoken, easy going, kind nature will be missed. Ervin is survived by his daughters and sons in law: Betty and John Thompson, Susan and Gene Hajek, grandchildren and their spouses: Neil and Beth Podoll, Michael Houser, Mindy and Dustin Burns, great grandchildren: Weston Podoll, Avery Podoll, Camden Houser, Brooklyn Houser, Brynlee Burns, sister in law:  Jean Tachovsky, niece and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 21, 2019 at 2:00 PM at Kuncl Funeral Home in Wilber. Visitation is Thursday from 5 – 7 PM and Friday 10 AM until services at the funeral home.
