Eugene Arthur Schwisow of Western, NE passed away on January 9, 2025, at the age of 78. He was born to Edwin and Helen (Smith) Schwisow in Fairbury, NE. Eugene was baptized on July 21, 1946, by R.O. Heinitz at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Daykin and confirmed on March 22, 1959, at ST Johns Church in Western.

Gene grew up around Western, all his life. He attended the Western Public School and graduated in the class of '65. After graduation he started at Petersen manufacturing in Dewitt in September and in November, he joined the Army National Guard and served his country for 6 years and worked for Petersen for 7 years. In that time frame he was united in marriage to Judith Kujath in November 1968, to this union two sons were born Bradley and Brant. In 1997 he married Jodi Geist and was married to her for 19 years.

Gene raised hogs farrow to finish and farmed along the side when he got out of the hog business, he went into raising cattle. He had a cow calf operation with a few feedlot cattle. When he started the cattle business, he didn't know how much easier it was to raise cattle than it was to raise hogs. His passion was for feeding his feeder cattle in his little red tractor that he loved so much with his dog beside him. He loved his dogs and would never live without one. He always had one growing up no matter where he lived in town or on the farm.

In his spare time, he liked going out and riding his horse, going to the Western Oil station to have a cup of coffee with the local farmers or going to the sale barn in Fairbury and watch the cattle sale. He enjoyed talking to people that had cattle, especially his cattle buyers. He also took pride in watching and attending the grandkids sports.

He is survived by his sons Bradley Schwisow (Wanda) of Western, Brant Schwisow of Tobias. Grandchildren Karlee Novacek (Kyle), Kyle Schwisow, and Schyler and Jaycee Schwisow and one great grandchild Myla Novacek. His special friend Elsie Houser of Fairbury. Brother Eldon Schwisow (Barb) of Tobias. Stepchildren Greg and Scott Housewirth and Mary Housewirth Norman and husband Cory.  Host of nieces and nephews.

Services are January 24, 2025 , at 2:00 PM at Saline Center. No visitation. Arrangements have been entrusted to Kuncl Funeral Home in Wilber.
