Evelyn M. Boller, 92, of Crete, passed away April 13, 2019. She was born on July 2, 1926 on a farm 3 miles north of Crete, Nebraska to Henry and Irma Pomajzl. She went to grade school with good friend and neighbor Loraine at Walnut District 110 Country School north of Crete. After attending High School in Crete, she graduated in 1943 at the age of 16. At the age of 17, Evelyn took a job at Fairmont Foods in Crete, learning to run a Comptometer (the first key driven mechanical calculator) in the Creamery Office. At age 18, she moved to Lincoln to work at Bankers Life Insurance Company as a cashier which tabulated all checks that came in and then took them to the bank and deposited daily. At work, Evelyn met life-time friends: Frieda, Audrey, Jeannine, Roma, and Edna. She rented a house across the street from the State Capitol along with friends, Louise and Marian Havronik, and walked to work every day as World War II was going on. For the next 6 years she worked at Bankers Life, and then in 1949, married Lynn Boller. They moved to Branden, Nebraska to farm with Tom and Bernice Elder. One year later they moved back to one of Evelyn's father's farms near Dorchester and began their own farm life. She got her old job back with Bankers Life and worked there until her son Bill was born in 1952. Six years later, her daughter, Jeanne was born followed a year later with another daughter, Susan. She worked as a stay at home mom and farmer's wife for the next 20 years, picking up odd jobs to help ends meet on the farm. Evelyn then took a job at Doane College where she again gained a lot of friends, known to her as her Doane Family. Life-long friends: Lou, Bill, Steve, Maureen, Linda, Joey and many others became very special to her. Most have already passed as have most of her closest friends. She was an avid card player and had played bridge in several card clubs in both Dorchester and Crete, always meeting new friends. Evelyn, being a farm girl, had a green thumb. She could cut a slip off a plant and get a new sprout to grow every time. If you had ever walked down 11th street past her home in the spring, the yard was forever full of color from all the flowers. Often times people would stop and comment about how nice they looked. She also liked to bake. Her homemade rolls were the favorites at all family gatherings. But it didn't stop there as pies, cakes, cookies and especially brownies came out of her oven as a delight to all. You can safely say she had a sweet tooth. When grandchildren came along, she took part in raising each and every one. Whether it was babysitting or driving them to school or taking care of them when they were sick, she never refused the task. Birthdays and holidays were special for her as she always had a card and present for each. Easter egg hunts on her front lawn or 4th of July fireworks out at the farm made her smile at the joy the kids were having. She truly lived for her grandkids. Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Irma Pomajzl, and her brother Harold and wife Kay Pomajzl. She is survived by her son, Bill and wife LuJean, her daughter, Jeanne and husband Mike Wardy, and daughter, Susan. Grandchildren are Brett and Wendy Boller, Mike and Jordan Wardy, Natalie, Amy and Stacy Kellough. Funeral Services: 10:30 AM, Wednesday, April 17th at Kuncl Funeral Home, Crete, NE. Visitation: Tuesday, 5 PM to 7 PM at funeral home. Memorials may be given to Horisun Hospice of Lincoln or Hosanna Home Health.  Kuncl Funeral Home in Crete is handling arrangements.
