Faye Margaret Whitman, 97, died on July 29, 2016 in Crete, Nebraska.
Margaret was born on January 22, 1919 in Webster County, Nebraska near Red Cloud. She was the second child of Laban A. Wagoner and Mary Hildebrand Wagoner. She graduated from Red Cloud High School in 1937 and attended McPherson College in McPherson, Kansas, and later Doane College in Crete. She was united in marriage to Claude E. Whitman on January 4, 1942 in Red Cloud. To this marriage two sons, David and Douglas, were born.
Margaret was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She was a founding partner in Whitman Charolais near Crete where she and Claude raised registered Charolais cattle for many years. As a fourth generation Nebraskan, she took great pride in her pioneer heritage and her ancestors who settled in the state in the 1870's. She was an avid reader and an informed citizen who stayed continuously abreast of current events. She was also a student of history and the impact of historical events and bygone eras on the present.
Margaret is survived by her sister Virginia Kay Goll (Lawrence) of Blue Hill, sons David A. Whitman (Gay) of Columbus and Douglas J. Whitman (Susan) of Grand Island; grandchildren Melanie J. Buck (Paul) of Landers, CA, Anne-Marie Leiszler (Christopher) of Lawrence, KS, Amanda L. Reiser (Matthew) of Omaha, Kathryn A. Whitman of Lincoln and Justin D. Whitman (Sarah) of Atlanta, GA; great granddaughters Ava Reiser and Marin Reiser both of Omaha and great grandsons Harrison J. Leiszler and Bennett W. Leiszler both of Lawrence, KS and Asher W. Reiser of Omaha as well as nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Claude, her sister Elizabeth Rudd and brother Francis Wagoner.
Memorial Service: 10:30 AM, Friday, Aug. 12 at Kuncl Funeral Home in Crete.
