Gabriella B. Rezny, from Wilber, Nebraska, was born on October 30, 1928 to Emil A. Kobza and
Elizabeth Duhon Kobza on the farm near Brainard, Nebraska. "Gub" as she was known at home
was the 8th child of a family of a dozen children. The siblings were Rose, Alice, Emil B, Margaret, Agnes, Mary, Betty, Helen, Bernard, Ben, and Dorothy.
She attended rural school and Catholic school at Holy Trinity in Brainard. Her first communion
was at Holy Trinity parish. She graduated from Brainard High school. After school she left the
farm to work in Lincoln at Elgen Watch factory.
She met Willard M. Rezny while dancing at Pla Mor Ball Room in Lincoln. They were married on January 31, 1953 at Saint Mary's Catholic Church in Lincoln, Nebraska. Gabbie settled in Wilber and started her family. Four children were born, Bill, Russ, Barb, and Diane. They were raised by a fun-loving mother, who taught her deeply held values in church and God, good work ethic, love of life, community spirit, and love of her Czech heritage which she enjoyed daily. Dancing and music were one of her pleasures, as she taught all her children the newest dance crazes of the 60's and 70's, and of course the waltz and polka. She always said it made her feel young to dance and she always said, "you're only as old as you feel"
Gabbie went back to work as the children were getting older, working evenings. This was when
her children were taught to cook. She would write the directions to the meal of the day as she
would start the meal and then gave very good directions on how to complete the meal. She
worked at Campbell's Soup in Tecumseh, NE and later took a job at Peterson's Manufacturing
making vice grips in Dewitt, NE. She loved getting back to work and she made many new friends during her working years. She was never one to be idle and always had projects to work on.
The work she did from the early years on the farm was where her love for the outdoors came
from. Planting in the soil, raising a garden, and growing beautiful flowers kept her busy. She
was a great cook, passing down her Czech recipes to her children and grandchildren. She did a
lot of sewing over the years, from making clothes for Barbie dolls to Czech vests and skirts. The
last two years, she was most excited to be part of Briggs' and Paxton's lives, her great grandchildren. Briggs called her Gi Gi. She was always sharing a story about how they were
learning and connecting with her. She will be dearly missed by family and friends.
She joins her parents Emil and Elizabeth, brothers Emil and Ben, and sisters Rose, Margaret, and Agnes in her spiritual afterlife.
