George J. Hynek, age 88 of Wilber, passed away at the Wilber Care Center on October 16, 2017. George was born on March 9, 1929 to George and Lydia (Svancara) Hynek in Crete, Nebraska.
He graduated from Wilber Public Schools and, on March 6, 1951 he was united in marriage to Doris Joan Jelinek at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Wilber, Nebr. George enlisted in the US Army on October 26, 1951 and was honorably discharged on September 10, 1953. He was a lifetime farmer and a bus driver in the Wilber-Clatonia School system for 46 years. George played both the trumpet and drums with several bands beginning at age 16. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion Post #101 of Wilber and played taps for many years at Memorial Day celebrations and for military funerals.
Survivors include: daughter, Karen Kay Johnson of Beatrice, son, Terry Lee and wife Carmen Hynek of Wilber, granddaughters, Dana Hughes of Beatrice, Amanda Gushard and significant other, James Doiel of Wilber, grandson, Michael Gushard and significant other, Wendi Haufle of Lincoln, great grandsons, Brodey Scott Hughes of Beatrice and Brock Thomas Doiel of Wilber.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Lydia Hynek, parents-in-law, Edward and Albina (Ourecky) Jelinek, wife Doris Joan on August 27, 2017 and son-in-law, Scott Johnson.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 20, 2017 at 10:30 AM at Kuncl Funeral Home, Wilber, Nebraska. Visitation will be on Thursday from 5 - 8 PM at the funeral home. Memorials to the family for future designation. Kuncl Funeral Home in Wilber is handling arrangements.
