Georgia Lorraine Johnson of Crete, Nebraska, died on December 17, 2025 at the Ridgewood Care Center in Seward at the age of 94 years.  She was born on October 31, 1931 on the family farm southeast of Crete, to Richard and Rose (Pomajzl) Vavra.  She went to grade school at District 88 South, which was built on her father's farm. Georgia graduated from Crete High School in May of 1948 and spent the year after graduation on the family farm.

The family moved to Crete when her father was elected County Commissioner.  At that time, her brother, Vance L. Vavra, was discharged from the Army Air Corp and was ready to farm.  She worked at Hokuf's Bakery for a time and later worked in Lincoln before getting a job at The Crete Mills office. Georgia later worked at City National Bank.

On August 12, 1961, Georgia married Donald B. Johnson, and they made their home on a farm south of Friend. She was employed at the First National Bank in Friend for over 37 years before retiring.

Georgia enjoyed gardening and had a large vegetable garden while living on the farm.  She visited the Czech Republic twice, the second time with her cousin, Arline Zajicek as her roommate. She toured Europe in her early days of traveling.  She and Don enjoyed traveling to many places in the United States, including going to Alaska, which was Don's first plane trip.  In later years, Georgia took many bus tours to different parts of the United States.   In 2009, Georgia and her husband Don moved to Crete.  Here she had a large flower garden and a small vegetable garden while taking care of her husband until his passing from Parkinson's disease. She always found time to volunteer at the Food Net on Saturdays.

Georgia is survived by a niece and great nieces, cousins and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Donald, brother Vance Vavra and nephew Vernon L. Vavra.

Graveside Services will be held on Saturday, April 11 at 10:00 AM at Andrews Cemetery in Friend.
