Gerald Lee "Jerry" Laffey was called to his heavenly home on Sunday, December 12, 2021 at Tabitha in Crete, Nebraska, following a brief hospice.

Jerry was born to Charles and Lillian (Winn) Laffey on July 12, 1937 in Taylorville, Illinois and was raised in Bloomington, Illinois, where he graduated from high school in 1955. Immediately upon graduation, Jerry embarked on a long railroad career.  First working for the Gulf, Mobile and Ohio Railroad, then the Illinois Central Gulf Railroad, and finally for Chicago's METRA System.  He retired in 1997.  Jerry also served in the US Army from 1960 to 1961.

Jerry married Mary Jane Dunbar in 1957 and had a daughter, Susan.  In 1960, Jerry married Barbara Hinton and had a  son, Stephen and daughter, Linda.

Jerry moved from Illinois to Crete, Nebraska in 2000 and, was a proud Charter Member of the Crete HazBeens.  He was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church, where he found his faith and many friendships.  In January 2018, Jerry moved in The Gardens Assisted Living.

Jerry is survived by his son, Stephen (Vonda) Laffey of Athens, Illinois, daughter, Susan Hermann of Elgin, Illinois, granddaughter Emily Gewecke and grandson, Robert Gewecke both of Lincoln, NE and his adopted family, Kevin and Liz Henning of Crete, NE.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, two infant brothers, Charles Patrick Laffey and James Edward Laffey, and his daughter, Linda Anne Gewecke.

Services will be held on Tuesday, December 28, 2021 at 10:30 AM at Grace United Methodist Church in Crete, Nebraska.  Memorials can be made to, Crete Cares, Crete Backpack Program or to Grace Methodist Church.  Arrangements entrusted to Kuncl  Funeral  Home, Crete, NE.
