drive along the Great Lakes. They paid $1.00 and $1.50 per night for lodging on this trip.
Ed and Gertrude made their home west of Hallam in Lancaster County on the Aksamit
homestead. Their farm was honored for being in the same family for 100 years by the Knights of
Aksarben in the fall of 1976.
Gertrude was a seamstress and inspector at the Formit Rogers factory in Crete for 10 years.
After Ed passed away in 1993 after 54 years of marriage, Gertrude moved to Crete where she
lived until she moved to the Wilber Care Center in 2010.
