Harlyn T. Crisman, age 96, passed away on January 22, 2016 in his home surrounding by family. He was born May 10, 1919 to Orville and Elizabeth (Harstock) Crisman in Gregory, South Dakota. Along with his sister and brother the family lived and worked on their farm.
While working in Colorado, he met the love of his life, Nila Lytle and the two were married August 23, 1941, in Kimball, Nebraska. As the two began their own family, World War II called for his service and he served in the U.S. Army from 1943 to 1945, when he was then discharged as a Sergeant.
Harlyn and Nila moved to the Crete area in 1952 where they raised six children: Lynda Filipi, Lydia Miller, Kathy (Ron) Dittmer, Barbara Hostettler, Tom (Mary) Crisman and Jenny (Keith) Phillips. Harlyn served as the Mayor of Crete for many years and also sat on the City Council. He was an active member of the VFW Post 4959. His love to visit with and charm people earned him many friends over the years.
As the children grew and moved out, the couple was able to realize their love of travel, taking long trips on their two-seater motorcycle. They invested in a camper and saw many sights together, camping and fishing across the country.
Harlyn is survived by all his children and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, siblings, loving wife, Nila of 69 years, who passed away in 2010, a daughter in law, two sons in law and two grandchildren.
A memorial service for Harlyn and Nila will be held at Kuncl Funeral Home in Crete, on Friday, January 29, 2016 at 10 A.M. Interment will follow at Lincoln Memorial Park. A fellowship for family and friends following interment will be held at the VFW in Crete, Nebr.
