Henry Paul Perry was born August 20, 1943 in Omaha, Nebraska to William A. and Gladys M. (Vantine) Perry. His friends called him Paul. He was raised in Crab Orchard and Lewiston during his childhood years. While in high school in Lewiston he worked for farmers in the local area and belonged to FFA (Future Farmers of America). He played football and basketball. He graduated from Lewiston Consolidated School in 1961. He joined the Navy in 1964 where he served his country in Vietnam on the APA 220 U.S.S Okanogan. He was honorably discharged from the Navy in 1968. Following his stint in the Navy, he rejoined his parents in Virginia Nebraska, where his father William had a gas station. His dad worked days while Henry worked nights and weekends. He was a commander in the Virginia Legion Post 367 twice. Henry had a wonderful sense of humor and he frequently used it to tease his siblings, family, and friends. He loved hunting, fishing, coffee, old style country music and polka music, dancing, and playing pool. Upon the death of his father Henry stayed with his mother and cared for her in Beatrice. He worked at Marshalls Truck Stop (T's Truck Stop) on Highway 77 as a mechanic for several years. Later, he worked at ExMart, as well as enlisting into the Army National Guard in the late 1980's for a short stint. He remained a bachelor until June 15, 1983, when he married Joyce Nicholson at Saint John Lutheran Church in Beatrice. He enjoyed raising his 3 stepchildren. He became a grandpa to 5 grandchildren and a great grandpa to 7 great grandchildren. He shared a close bond with his great grandson and best friend Amani who was his pride and joy. His dedication, determination, compassion, loyalty and love was felt by many. He always gave more than he had. That was his heart and his life.
Henry is survived by his sister, Jean Scott with her husband Mike; daughter, Rhonda Hotchkiss with granddaughter, Sierra Hotchkiss both of Lincoln NE; Tammy Lisec with husband Darrell of Crete, NE with grandsons, Alec Lisec of Rolston, Ne; Cole Lisec of Crete, NE; Son, Rodney Ulm with wife Jennifer Ulm; granddaughters, Ashley Scholz with husband Trevor, Nicole Cowell with husband Jacobee. He has many nieces, nephews, and friends that share in our grief.
Preceded in death were parents William and Gladys Perry; Brothers Dan Perry and wife Lois, Charles Perry and wife Coletta, Edgar and wife Velma Perry; Sister, Susan (Perry) Hegwald and husband Ted; Wife, Joyce Perry.
A graveside service will be held for both Henry and Joyce on June 24, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. at Riverside Cemetery in Crete, NE. Memorials can be made out to Tammy Lisec: 1985 County Rd G, Crete NE 68333. Arrangements entrusted to Kuncl Funeral Home in Crete.
