Irene L Cerveny, 90, of Swanton, died Nov. 15, 2017 in Wilber, Nebr. She was
born July 4, 1927 to Adolph & Blanche (Novak) Vanourny. The oldest of 3 children,
she attended rural school District 78 & 60. She graduated from Wilber High School
in 1944 and taught school for 2 years at District 78. She was united in marriage to
Donald W. Cerveny on June 11, 1946. They lived and farmed on the family farm
which has been in the family 126 years. Irene was baptized at the Swanton United
Methodist church and remained a devoted member until her death. She was a
long time member of the ZCBJ lodge. She had many interests and hobbies and
loved flowers, birds, pets of all kinds, ceramics, raising exotic bantam chickens
and enjoyed her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She spoke fluent Czech
and translated Czech letters for friends. She loved baking and her specialties were
rolls and kolaches. Irene was a member of the Merry Makers Extension Club, the United Methodist Women, The Saline County chorus and a 4H leader. In 1980, after the loss of their son, Irene worked side by side in the fields with Don until their retirement in 1990. She is survived by her husband of 71 years; daughters Cheryl Weishahn (Bob Reid) of Lincoln and Patricia (Loren) Wine of Phoenix, Az.;
grandchildren John (Jena) Cerveny of Hastings, Clinton (Kate) Weishahn of
Leesburg, Va., Jenny (Allan) Lawrence of Spring Hill, Ks., Chelsea Wine of Phoenix,
Az.; great grandchildren Sophia, Isabelle and Lucy Cerveny of Hastings, Landen,
lane, Laylin and Lawsen of Spring Hill, Ks.; brother Richard (Phyllis) Vanourny of
Chester, AK. and sister Shirley (Bill) Nelson of Lincoln, nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by her parents, son Jack and nephew David Vanourny. Services are Monday, 10:30 AM, Kuncl Funeral Home, Wilber. Visitation: Sunday, 2 – 8 PM at the funeral home, family will greet friends from 2 – 4. lnterment: Swanton Cemetery. Memorials have been designated to Swanton Cemetery Association. Kuncl Funeral Home in Wilber is in charge of arrangements.
