Jack Heckman, 76, of Wilber, passed away in his home on Sunday, June 10, 2018. He was born on September 29, 1941 in Lincoln Nebraska to Millie (Keller) and Herschel Heckman and raised by her second husband Francis Bourg. He lived in several towns as he was growing up and Graduated from Crete High School in 1959. After graduation he enlisted in the National Guard from 1959 to 1963. He started his long career as a carpenter working with Don Kahle. They built numerous homes together throughout Crete and surrounding area. Later he started working for Sack Lumber designing and building homes. Then he took the position as manager until he retired. He was member of the Crete Volunteer Fire Department and College Heights Country Club.
Jack believed in hard work and having fun. He personally built his first home in 1969 in Crete and his second home in Wilber in 1991. He loved to play golf, fish and enjoyed having people around him. It seemed he always had a new idea to build something and a hammer in his hand. He loved his family and was always smiling and telling jokes.
Jack also believed in helping people whether it was answering questions they had with home construction projects or helping them to design and build their new home. People trusted Jack because they always knew they would get the right answer.
In 1962 he married Betty Muff (55 years) and they have 2 grown children. Jeff and his wife Andrea, Roxane (Pickens) and her husband Mitch, 2 grandchildren, Ariel Heckman and Austin Heckman and 1 great grandson Hudson Heckman. He was preceded in death by his sister Sue Broz and his parents. He is survived by his brother Jerry Heckman and wife Sharon. Janet Nykodym and husband Don and his brother in law Ron Broz and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at Kuncl Funeral Home in Wilber, Nebraska on Saturday, June 16 at 10:30 am.
