Obituary

James Eugene Rischling passed away on Monday, July 24, 2017 after a battle with melanoma. Jim was born on a farm northeast of Tobias, NE on August 8, 1933 to James and Elizabeth (Kratina) Rischling. After graduating from Western High School in 1951 he served in the U.S. Air Force for 4 years. After his service he owned and operated Rischling Oil service station in Western. In 1966 Jim went to work at Nebraska State Bank. He retired from the bank in 1999. He and wife, Pat, owned J & P Hardware in Western. Jim was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ, Western American Legion Post 255 (61 years), Western Community Club (61 years), Plainview Cemetery Board, Western Fire Department (61 years), Western Rescue Unit (41 years) and Saline County Tourism Board (14 years). He announced the parade at the Western Picnic for 38 years. Jim was very proud of his service to the Western community. Jim was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia and parents, James and Elizabeth Rischling. He is survived by daughters Debra Rischling and Kelly (Duane) Mohlman, son Rich, granddaughters Lindsey (fiancé Kellie Brown) and Christine Mohlman, sister Shirley Matrisciano, brother-in-law Dale Rigby, numerous nieces and nephews plus his furry kids Annabelle, Smokey and MC. A gathering of friends and family will be held Wednesday, July 26 at the Western Fire Hall from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, July 27 at St. John's United Church of Christ. Memorials may be given to the family for future designation. Kuncl Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
