Janet K. Thompson, the matriarch of the Thompson and Claussen family passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones on Monday, April 14th after a long battle with cancer. Janet was born in Dunlap, Iowa August 8th, 1941, to Emil and Elsie (Schneider) Claussen. Moving with her family to Nebraska in 1942 Janet attended country school in rural Wayne County, she graduated Wayne High School in 1960. Baptized and confirmed in Grace Lutheran Church located in Wayne County she was united in marriage in December 1960 in the same church to Mike Thompson. To this union six children were born: Loren, David, Brad, Penny, Candace, & Robert. Janet continuously supported her children's, grandchildren's and great grandchildren's inspiration & adventures including their military service in nearly every branch.

Throughout her life Janet was employed at many jobs.  She worked at Farmland Foods in Crete, NE for 27 years from the day it opened until she retired.

Janet is well known for her beef and noodles, liver and onions, angel food cake & her strawberry salad. She loved collecting quilts, making noodles at the Legion, cheating at cards, but most of all she enjoyed making memories with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Janet is preceded in death by her husband Mike, son, David, Brothers, Dale and (wife) Doris, Merold and (wife) Pat, Roger, Melvin and (wife) Donna, Don and (wife)Sandy. In Laws, Ross, Norman and Mickey, Merlin and Jean, Edith and Bill, Betty and Bob, Pat and Sandy, Manuel, and John, Grandson Lucas, many aunts, uncles, nieces & nephews.

Janet is survived by her sister, Darlene Hood, sisters-in law Karen & Bonnie. Children; Loren and (wife Penny), Pam Thompson, Brad and (wife Jolien), Penny and (husband Joel) Bowers, Candace and (husband Tony) Halter, and Robert and (wife Gwen).

Grandchildren; Niki and Jose Gamboa, Adam Chrans and friend Kristen, Danielle and Brian Togstad, Miranda and Matt Havlat, Nathan Thompson and Piper, Brad Braden, Kirk and Kami Braden, Meagan and Chuck Asher, Kristina and Robert Lowery, Michael Thompson, TJ and Courtney Thompson, Zeus, Ashley and Aaron Adams, Kacey and Nick Janssen, Taylor Halter, Sydney Halter, Camry and Joe Nerud, Jordan and Kelsie Fikar, Spencer Thompson, Mitchell Thompson & friend Jayden, Claire Thompson and friend Tanner.

Great Grandchildren: Olivia, Gabriel, Chloe, Jameson, Natalie, Emma, Ethan, Ayva, Callen, Garrett and Gavin, Raeleigh, Briggs, Charli, Landon, Logan, Saylor, Carter, Elsie, Colton, Kenna, Kayden, Mallory, Mason, Madison, and Barrett.

Funeral Services will be held on Friday, April 18, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Kuncl Funeral Home in Wilber, NE. Visitation is Thursday from 5 - 7 PM at the funeral home. Memorials are in care of the family for future designation. Arrangements entrusted to Kuncl Funeral Home in Wilber.
