Janice Rose (Horky) Klika, 82, of Crete, passed away on October 20, 2017. She was born on June 3, 1935 to Henry H. and Rose (Pecka) Horky at Horky's Park (Blue River Lodge) in Crete, Nebraska, in a cabin Henry built. She started her education at District #10 Rural school. In 1942 the Horky family moved to a farm north of Milford and then in 1946 to a farm south of Crete. Janice attended St. James School, graduating from the 8th grade in 1948. The family then moved to a farm near Pleasant Hill, where she attended and graduated from Dorchester High School in 1952.
Upon graduation she worked as a bookkeeper for Sack Lumber Co. She kept books for Heidi and Harold's Cafe for over 20 years along with Sacred Heart Church, and Crete Sew and Vac. She was also a bookkeeper for Crete Lumber from 1976 until she retired in June of 2010. She was never someone who kept idle. She typed papers for many Doane students, correcting grammar and staying up all night sometimes so their papers were in on time.
She married Lumir E. Ladman on August 18, 1953, and with this union was born three children.
On May 20, 1995 she married Richard (Dick) Klika.
Janice was a member of the Sacred Heart Church and Sacred Heart Altar Society. She had also been a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, having held many offices.
She is preceded in death by her parents, brother-in-law Lester Znamenacek, son-in-law Ray Morgan and nephew Gerry Znamenacek.
She is survived by her husband Dick, her children, Brenda (Greg) Bockelman, Bruce (Karen) Ladman, step children Patti (Jim) Wright, Joan (Bill) Stollar and Katie Morgan, sister Joann Znamenacek, grandchildren and great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and many cousins. Not to mention all the wonderful friends who have remained part of her life.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, October 25th at 10:30 AM at Sacred Heart Church in Crete. Visitation will be on Tuesday 3 - 8 PM with a Rosary at 7:00 PM at Kuncl Funeral Home in Crete.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are in care of the family for future dedication.
