John E. Bassett was born on December 20, 1946, to Wilber and Ann (Schroeder) Bassett. He married Renee Henricksen on July 3, 1978. He died on March 26, 2020. He is survived by his children, John M. Bassett, Jay Bassett and wife, Dee, Jill Graham and husband, Christopher; brother, Marty Bassett, sister, Kathy Leishman and husband, Ron; three grandchildren, Wesley, Calvin, and Leila Graham; niece, nephews, grand nieces and nephews, and three great-grand nieces. John was in the Army and fought in Vietnam. He received a Sharpshooter Badge, Vietnam Service Medal, Service Bar Marksman Badge, National Defense Service Medal, and Republic of Vietnam Commendation Medal. He worked for Lincoln Telephone until his retirement. A private graveside burial will be held. John strongly believed in supporting fellow veterans.  As such, memorials are suggested to any veterans' organization that will benefit our veterans.  Arrangements have been entrusted to Kuncl Funeral Home in Crete, NE.
