Kathleen Karpisek Kubicek was born August 6, 1975 in Lincoln, Nebraska to Richard Dale Karpisek and Mary Vesely Karpisek. She passed away on January 15, 2018 in Wilber Nebraska following a 6 ½ year battle with triple negative breast cancer. Kathleen has two children, Joseph Richard and Elizabeth Jo.
Kathleen attended Wilber-Clatonia Schools and graduated in 1993. She was a Regent's Scholar and graduated from the University of Nebraska Lincoln with a Bachelor's Degree in Great Plains Studies.
She was united in marriage to Joseph E. Kubicek on May 23, 1997 and later divorced.
Kathleen worked as a rural mail carrier in Crete, was employed in the Ad Department of a local newspaper and the Wilber Care Center for a total of 21 years. Kathleen was a nurse's aide, medication aide, activity department assistant and in Central Supply.
Kathleen served as the 1994-1995 Wilber Czech Queen and was inducted into the Ladies of Libuse on August 4, 2017.
Kathleen enjoyed playing the saxophone with the Wilber-Clatonia Alumni Band and served as Vice President or "President of Vice" as she referred to it. She was a member of the Wilber American Legion Auxiliary Post 101 and a Lifetime member of the Crete VFW Auxiliary.
Kathy is survived by her children, Joe and Lizzie, sister, Lisa and husband Tim Messman of Unionville, Missouri and nephew Jarrod Messman, brother, Dale and wife Crystal Karpisek and nephews, Lucas and Zachary of Wilber, her mother, Mary Beth Karpisek of Wilber, grandmother, Ella (Sysel) Karpisek of Wilber, cousin, Russ and wife Jodi Karpisek of Wilber, step mother, Patricia (Kouma) Karpisek of Lincoln and Todd Kouma and Shelly (Kouma) Nessetti.
She is preceded in death by her father, Richard D. Karpisek, uncles, James J. Vesely and Ron Karpisek, grandparents, Irvin Karpisek and John J. and Lillie (Tyser) Vesely.
A Celebration of Life for family and friends will be held at the new Wilber American Legion Club in Wilber, Nebraska on Saturday, January 27, 2018 beginning at 11 AM. There will be a private burial and inurnment ceremony at Wilber Czech Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the family for future designation. Kuncl Funeral Home, Wilber, Nebraska in charge of services.
