Lester Davis,
Jr.
October 31, 1944 – May 8, 2025
Lester Davis Jr., 80, of Crete, Nebraska, passed away in 2025, leaving behind a legacy of faith, love, and service. Born on October 31, 1944, in Humboldt, Nebraska, to Lester and Margaret (Warner) Davis, he was the second of four children. From a young age, Lester developed a deep love for the outdoors, often spending his time hunting and fishing—passions that would remain with him throughout his life.
At just 17, Lester enlisted in the U.S. Navy, proudly serving his country. Upon returning home, he met his first love, Carol Jeane McConnaughey. They were married on June 5, 1965, and made their home in Crete, Nebraska. Lester worked at the Alpo factory while he and Carol raised three children: Robert, Wanda, and Tammy. Carol passed away in 1996 after a courageous battle with cancer.
In 1997, Lester found love again and married Naomi Marie Keaton (Hahn) on June 13, 1999, in Brock, Nebraska. Together, they embarked on mission work with Child Impact International and served at a Navajo school in New Mexico and lived the last several years in Arizona—living out their shared faith and commitment to helping others.
Lester was known for his strong work ethic, his infectious generosity, and his unwavering belief in Jesus Christ. He was a devoted grandfather, affectionately known as the "silly grandpa," and a loyal friend who never met a stranger. He loved dogs, camping, and sharing stories around the fire.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Lester and Margaret; his brothers, Larry and Jerry Davis; his first wife, Carol; brothers-in-law Tom and Carl McConaughey; and his son, Robert. He is survived by his loving wife, Naomi; his brother Richard (Martha) and sisters-in-law Marlene (Larry), Chris and July McConaughey; Wanda (Scott), Tammy, Audie (Lori), Mark (Heather), and Roger; and his grandchildren Trey, Vanessa, Andres, Erika, Joshua, Gabrielle, Isabella, Zach, and Isla.
A viewing and family greeting will be held at Kuncl Funeral Home in Crete, Nebraska, on Saturday, May 17, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. A graveside service will follow on Sunday, May 18, at 10:00 a.m. at the Unadilla Cemetery off Highway 2 in Unadilla, Nebraska.
Lester lived with the blessed assurance of reuniting with his loved ones in eternity. His life was a testament to faith, family, and friendship—and he will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
