Marie Ann Sukovaty, 97 years 14 days, of Wilber, died April 5, 2021 at the Wilber Care Center.  She was born on a farm west of Swanton on March 22, 1924, to Edward and Emma (Bartos) Placek. She grew up on the farm, the 4th of 5 children.  She attended Rural School District 15 through the 8th grade, and graduated from Swanton High School in 1943. On February 16, 1944 Marie was united in marriage to Lumir L. Sukovaty, and lived on a farm west of Wilber.  To this union 5 children were born.  They lived on the farm until Lumir's death on August 24, 1963. Marie and children moved to Wilber, to the home she lived in until she moved to the Care Center 3 weeks ago. Marie was a farmwife, working alongside Lumir most of the time.  She had big gardens and canned all her fruits and vegetables.  She also raised chickens and ducks, and milked many cows.  After moving to town she worked at Formfit Rogers in Crete & Beatrice.  During retirement she was a caregiver for her grandchildren and great grandchildren.  She was also a seamstress and enjoyed making quilts, which she lovingly gave to her family.  The family enjoyed her baking, especially her kolache and cinnamon rolls.  She also made cherry pies from the cherry tree in her yard that she picked and pitted every year. She was a Husker Football fan from the days of Lyle Bremser and enjoyed the Molly Bee Polka Show. In her later years the highlight of her day was having coffee with her friends, riding around town in golf carts, and enjoying the company of her children, grandchildren,  great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Marie is survived by her children, Marjorie Rhynalds, Kathleen Sukovaty, Lumir (Kay) Sukovaty, Connie Parker & Denny Janecek, and Richard Sukovaty.  She is also survived by grandchildren, Sheri (Todd) Lampe, Robert (Chris) Rhynalds, Mark (Dawn) Sukovaty, Stacey (Andrew) Watson, J.R. (Nina) Jones, Angela (Eric) Douthwright, Kelsey (Will) Togstad, Dylan Siebrass and Drew Janecek. There are 20 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren who mourn her passing.  She is also survived by sisters-in-law Marie French, Delores Nisi and Delora Sukovaty, along with numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Lumir Sukovaty, son-in-law Larry Rhynalds, siblings Milo and Robert Placek, Emma Davis and Sylvia Hammack, and beloved brothers and sisters in-law.  Also preceding her were great-granddaughter Mary Elizabeth Sukovaty and other beloved family members. Funeral Services will be held on Friday, April 9 ^th at 1:30 P.M. at Kuncl Funeral Home in Wilber and will be livestreamed via the Kuncl Funeral Home website.  Viewing 1 hour prior to services.  Memorials are in care of family.  Kuncl Funeral Home in Wilber is in charge of arrangements.
