Obituary

Marlen Dean Hayek of Wilber passed away November 25, 2020.  He was born in Saline County, near Wilber on May 6, 1941 to Otto and Blanche (Jelinek) Hayek.  He attended rural school until the 8th grade and then graduated from Wilber High School in 1959.  He served in the Army National Guard from 1963 to 1969. He married Nancy Maas on May 8, 1965.  He worked in Wilber at Better Buys Window factory and Wilber Manufacturing Company.  He then worked at American Tool Company in DeWitt until he retired in 2003.  Marlen loved to farm and helped on the family farm until his parents moved to town.  He loved working on projects in the garage, especially working on cars and engines.  He helped son Scott and son-in-law Tom build many race cars over the years.  He could fix about anything.  He also loved to dance and fish.  Marlen is survived by his wife of 55 years, Nancy.  Daughter, Tracy Petracek and husband Tom.  Son, Scott Hayek and wife Donna.  Grandchildren, Rachel Havel and husband Lucas, Matthew Petracek, Haley Johnson and husband Kolby and Trevor Hayek.  Great granddaughter, Haegen Havel.  No services are scheduled at this time.  Kuncl Funeral Home in Wilber is entrusted with the arrangements.
