Obituary

Marvin Henry Osterhaus, age 79, passed away peacefully at the Wilber Care Center on
Thanksgiving Day, November 23, 2017. He was born May 5, 1938 in Axtell, KS to Henry A. and
Frances M. (Holthaus) Osterhaus. He was raised on a farm north of St. Benedict, KS where he
attended St. Mary's Catholic School through 8th grade. He then went to work with area farmers
to help his family put food on the table. Marvin entered the Army Reserves in January 1961 and
was Honorably Discharged in September of 1966. He married Jo Ann Wassenberg on July 10, 1962 in Marysville, KS. She preceded him in death in 1988. To this union two children were born, Renee Ann and Wayne Gerard. Marvin, JoAnn and their family lived at Axtell and Holton, KS before moving to DeWitt, NE in 1965 to work for Mahloch Farms then for Wells Implement in Plymouth, NE as a mechanic until retirement. He was a member of St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Wilber. Marvin is preceded in death by his wife, Jo Ann; grandson, Phillip M. Winz; his parents; two brothers - Joseph, in infancy and Eddie; a sister - Joann Sandmann; and two brothers-in- laws, Hap Brucken and Don Eisenbarth. He is survived by his daughter, Renee Winz and husband Steve of Holdrege, NE; his son,
Wayne Osterhaus and wife Denise of DeWitt, NE; grandsons, Michael (Chelsea) Winz of
Holdrege, NE, Greg (Chantel) Winz of Hildreth, NE, Garrett Winz of Holdrege, NE and Andrew
Osterhaus of DeWitt, NE and great grandchildren, Eva Winz and Sawyer Winz. Sisters: Delores
Brucken, Mildred Eisenbarth, Sister Mary Immaculata, Sharon (Dick) Broxtermann and Jeanette
(Elmer) Koch. Brothers: Robert (Zita) Osterhaus, Dick (Mary Kay) Osterhaus, Jerry (Judy)
Osterhaus, Dennis (Kathleen) Osterhaus and Hank Osterhaus; brother and sister in-laws: Gus
Sandmann, Jim (Lou) Wassenberg and Bernadette (Dan) Taylor along with many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. As to Marvin's wish that he be cremated, a Rosary will be said prior to the funeral service at 9:00 AM. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Wilber, NE on Wednesday, November 29th, 2017. Burial of the cremains will follow at St. Gregory the Great Cemetery in Marysville, KS at 2:30 PM. Memorials can be made to St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church or to the Wilber Care Center, both of Wilber, NE. Kuncl Funeral Home in Wilber, NE is in charge of arrangements.
