Obituary

Mary "Kathleen" Tauras, born on October 26, 1949, in Tucson, Arizona, to Mary Lou and Charles Franklin Gove, passed away on November 18, 2024. She is survived by her four adult children, Alexander, Michael, Anna, and Mary, as well as three grandchildren and her brother, Franklin Stanley "Stan" Gove. Kathleen was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Ann McCord, her brother Charles "Chuck" Gove, Jr., and her granddaughter Zulmira.

Growing up on a farm in rural Nebraska, Kathleen enjoyed barrel racing her quarter-horse, Flash, as her favored 4H activity. Her professional life was defined by her passion for helping others, which she pursued through her work in both public and private health sectors. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Speech Therapy from Nebraska State University and completed a Master's degree in Public Health at Clark University in Worcester, Massachusetts. Kathleen served honorably in the United States Army, where she was stationed on an overseas tour in Okinawa, Japan. During her service, she worked as a military court clerk and reporter. Afterwards, Kathleen worked as a Speech Therapist in Okinawa's schools. While in Okinawa, she married Thomas John Tauras, and together they journeyed from Japan to Turkey, then traveling overland through Southeast and South Asia. She continued to travel with Tom as she raised her four children, living in countries such as Egypt, the Philippines, India, Guatemala, and Romania. These experiences not only enriched her family's lives but also instilled in them a global perspective, shaped by her sense of exploration and curiosity.

Kathleen was known for her compassion, her tenacity in her convictions, and her unwavering love for her fellow humans. A cornerstone of her life was her deep Christian faith and spirituality. She found joy and meaning in being part of church communities, engaging in faith-based discussions, and fostering meaningful connections with others. Her kindness, resilience, and dedication to those around her made her a beloved presence in the lives of all who knew her. Her children and grandchildren will forever remember her as a source of steadfast love.

Kathleen's children would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to her dear friends, as well as to Guardian Angels Homecare, and to the community of Centennial Terrace for their care and support during her time in Crete.
