Obituary

Mavis M. (Burton) Dauphinee, 91, wife of Norman G. Dauphinee, Wilber, died on Friday, May 4, 2018 in Wilber, NE. She was born June 29, 1926 in Bingham, NE to George and Aileen (Cook) Burton. Mavis graduated from Curtis Agricultural High School in 1944 and attended Doane College for two years before transferring to Vanderbilt University, majoring in Public Health Nursing. She graduated in 1950 with a Registered Nursing degree before nursing in CA, CO and later NY. On July 11, 1954, she was united in marriage to Norman G. Dauphinee. Together they returned to the Buffalo area, living 30 years in Tonawanda, N.Y. where Mavis worked for area doctors and the Erie County Health Department. She was a member of Plymouth Congregational Church, Buffalo, NY and then Plymouth Congregational United Church of Christ in Crete, NE. Mavis enjoyed reading, traveling and serving as a Sunday school superintendent and Girl Scout leader. Retiring in 1985, the couple moved to Alliance, Nebraska where Mavis owned and operated a used bookstore Friends and Neighbors for nearly 20 years. They moved to Wilber in 2007. The couple observed their 62nd anniversary on July 11, 2016. Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law, Susan and Matthew Zimmer-Dauphinee, Conyers, GA; Sarah and Kenneth Brown, Crete, NE; Karen Butler, Richardson, TX; sister-in-law, Ruth Burton, AZ; grandchildren, Charlotte Brown and Colin Irons, Shelby Butler, Melissa Heilman and David Heilman, Jacob Zimmer-Dauphinee, James and Cate Faulkner; and great-grandchildren, Dawson and Fiona Heilman. Preceded in death by parents; husband, Norman Dauphinee; brother, John Burton and son-in-law Scott Butler. Funeral services 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 9, 2018 at Kuncl Funeral Home, Wilber, NE with the Reverend Kathy Rahorst officiating. Burial: Riverside Cemetery, Crete, NE. No Visitation. Memorials will go to the staff of the Wilber Care Center.
